Autism and ADHD

Autistic experiences are at the heart of what we do here at Nothing About Us Without Us. We believe in the social model of disability; there is nothing wrong with Autistic, and other differently abled individuals, it is society that "dis-ables" us from participating  in shared community due to specific standards of how people "should" behave.

Our clinicians are trained to accommodate all needs in the therapy space. Telehealth appointments, nature walks, video and board games, sensory accommodations, and communication accommodations, are examples of some of the ways we work towards making therapy a more accessible experience for autistic and ADHD individuals. As well as flexibility with appointment times, more frequent reminders, and trying to matching clients with therapists who share similar identities.

Mindfulness can be difficult for neurodivergent folx. At the same time, focused awareness and connecting with ones body are some of the most powerful tools Autistic and ADHD individuals can use to improve their mental health. Often, individuals with disabilities have trauma simply from living in a society not built for them, therefore we take a trauma informed approach with ALL clients who identify as having a disability.

If you are the parent or caregiver of an Autistic or ADHD individual, we work closely with you and your family member to provide you as much knowledge and education as possible about your family members lived experiences.

Despite out organization specializing in helping our fellow neurodivergent people, there is more diversity within the community than there is without. This means that we may not always be the best fit for every client. But not to worry! If we feel that our services would not be helpful, we will give you as many referrals as possible to help you find the organization or therapist that is the best fit for you.
